Guest Blogging

One recommendation for building traffic is to do a guest blog on another blog.  That means you write a post with a linkback to your blog.  This is one way to get traffic to your blog.  A couple of years back I did a reciprocated guest blog post where I wrote a blog post for that blogger's post and in return they wrote one for mine.  I've also had one straight up guest post on one of my blogs.  I haven't done a guest post since and really have no desire to do so.  How effective is guest blogging.  Well, the simple answer is it depends on a lot of factors. There's no guarantees!
  • Ideally a guest post will bring traffic to both the blogger and the guest poster.  That doesn't always happen so it is best to know that may or may not happen.
  • Guest posting like multiple author blogging takes blogging away from the person realm.  Blogging is a personal almost intimate activity.  A lot of my feelings and ideas go into my blog posts so the bottom line is I really don't want to share when it comes to writing posts.
  • Guest bloggers will not do things the same way you would so this may become an issue if they want to include one or more images with their post.
  • Guests posts like your own blog posts drop into the archives.  Once burried you may or may not get any further traffic.  Worse yet if that particular blogger stops blogging or deletes their blog the link becomes a hole in your PR bucket.
